Sony has finally rolled out the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z series (Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z) on Thursday. The update 10.6.A.0.454 will bring the latest Android OS to the former flagship phones. The Xperia Z1 series, Z2 series and the Z3 series have already received the update earlier this month back and the original Z series were thought to be given a step-motherly treatment alongside the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua.

However, it may come as a surprise to everyone that Sony has decided to roll out the next update i.e. Android Lollipop update 5.1 to all these devices starting July including the two variants of Xperia M2. Additionally, joining the list are Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3. The rollout is likely to differ from market to market and carriers but Sony appears to have taken a consumer’s views into consideration and provide their smartphones with the latest OS update.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is said to bring the following features into the Xperia Z devices. Apart from sprucing up the UI and modify the User Interface, certain changes have also been made to the lock screen notifications with provisions to customise settings. One can now be freely allow someone to meddle with their phone and not worry about privacy with the multi-user profiles and guest mode. In addition to the three enhancements, the update is also said to optimise storage and provides for apps to be moved to SD card.
