From her entry into Bollywood with films like Julie, Solva Sawan and Himmatwala to her comeback film English Vinglish followed by Mom, veteran actor Sridevi has never failed to impress the audience. She is known for her exceptional dance skills, gritty performances and for her eternal beauty. The southern diva has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films and is often regarded as the ‘first female superstar of Hindi cinema’. Over the years, Sridevi has won not just several prestigious awards but also the hearts of her fans. And now, presumably, a fan of Sridevi, has taken fandom to the next level by putting up a doll named after the iconic actor in a Singapore restaurant! The legendary actor says that she is humbled and overjoyed by this gesture.
The doll brings to mind the image of Sridevi in the Bharatnatyam outfit in songs like ‘Naino me sapna’ from the film Himmatwala. Sridevi’s husband, Boney Kapoor has reportedly said that this reflects her enduring stardom. IANS quotes him: “There are restaurants and shops named after her in India and abroad. It just shows her enduring stardom.“
In a press statement, Sridevi has reportedly said that she is “humbled” and “overjoyed”. She has also thanked people for keeping her in their thoughts after 50 years of acting. Here is what she said: “What can I say? I am humbled and of course, overjoyed. If after so many years in the film industry, people still think of me and use my name in such a sweet and complimentary way, I can only say I am blessed. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts after 50 years of acting.”
Here is a tweet put out by Sridevi’s fans on Twitter:
Over the last fifty years, Sridevi has given many memorable performances, including Sadma, Mr. India, Chaalbaaz, Nagina and Chandni. Reportedly, she will now be pairing up with her Gumrah co-star Sanjay Dutt after 25 years for a film that will be directed by the 2 States director Abhishek Varman. The grapevine also suggests a sequel to English Vinglish and that Sridevi might have a cameo in her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film Dhadak, which is the official remake of the blockbuster Marathi film Sairat.
