Opening to mixed reviews on Friday, Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria‘s Student of The Year 2 earned Rs 12.06 crore on its opening day and has emerged as the second highest opener for Tiger at the Box Office. While debutantes Ananya and Tara were much lauded for their performance in the Punit Malhotra directorial, the Twitterati knew no chills the moment the movie hit theatres in India.

Many rated the movie below expectations and vented out their experience in the hall through memes. Trolling the film online, one Twitter user called it “Karate Kid Part 3” while another revealed, “#SOTY2 second-half is totally filled with pro kabbadi league finale where @iTIGERSHROFF kicks everyone’s asses with shoulder ligament tear Tiger is the new avenger for marvel phase 4. @Marvel_India @DharmaMovies #StudentOfTheYear2” (sic). Yet another user hilariously tweeted, “After the critics gave their reviews the producers have decided to change the name from ‘Student of the Year 2’ to ‘Student of the year thuuuu’” (sic).

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the latest Box Office collection of Student Of The Year 2 on Twitter and wrote, “#StudentOfTheYear2 puts up a fairly good total on Day 1… Biz slowed down towards evening shows… Sat and Sun crucial… Substantial growth – especially at plexes – is essential for a healthy total… Fri ₹ 12.06 cr. India biz. #SOTY2 is Tiger’s second highest opener *so far*.” (sic)

Despite the great promotions that the film’s cast went on to do to create the buzz, the word-of-mouth around Student Of The Year 2 doesn’t seem entirely good. However, it has been deemed as an out-and-out commercial cinema targeting the college and school-going youth. Most part of the audience on social media has called it an entertainer appropriate for young moviegoers.
