To mark the 100th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement, a campaign named ‘Satyagraha se Swachhagraha’ has been organised in the Champaran district of Bihar. Champaran is an indelible part of history. The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had launched Satyagraha from Champaran; the movement that was used to fight the British in 1917.
Also known as #ChaloChamparan, the sole aim of the campaign where 20000 Swachhgrahis gathered in Bihar, is to spread awareness about building toilets and stop open defecation. Bihar has so far lagged behind and is currently performing poorly in terms of sanitation coverage at 45%. The week-long community sanitation drive which launched on April 3 across rural Bihar has managed to gather support from various Bollywood celebrities who are also Swachh ambassadors.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan who is the campaign ambassador for Banega Swachh India, along with Padman actor Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit and Anushka Sharma have taken up to their Twitter handles to share their messages through short videos. Using the hashtag Chalo Champaran, the actors saluting the spirit of 20000 Swachhagrahis and asked more and more people to join the movement.
