The Salesman premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and won Best Screenplay and Best Actor (Shahab Hosseini) awards. The Salesman’s plot revolves around the lives of a married couple who are theater artistes and who perform Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman on stage. The young couple living in Tehran re forced to move into a new apartment after the threat of their previous building’s collapse. The wife gets assaulted in her new home and her husband seeks to find the attacker while the wife undergoes trauma. In his subsequent quest to find the intruder he learns that the apartment previously housed a prostitute and that she may have had many conflicts with her past clients. The Salesman has been in news also because Asghar Farhadi chose to boycott the Oscars this year in lieu of US President Donald Trump’s infamous travel ban of seven Muslim countries. He said in a statement that was read at the 89th Academy Awards,”I’m sorry I’m not with you. My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S.” Oscars 2017: Best Picture goof-up between La La Land and Moonlight and 8 other most talked about moments from 89th Academy Awards
