Love finds its way in the most bizarre and funny situations and the story of this writer is a proof. Zoe Folbigg used to travel by train every day to work where her love story began. That was when she spotted a handsome man who wasn’t among the regular commuters. He was reading a book and would not take his face out of it even for a minute. Zoe who used to be a jeans-wearing girl started dressing up more to catch the man’s attention, but nothing worked. Zoe knew it was her love at first sight moment but did not know how to take it ahead. Her colleagues who also knew about it and would regularly ask her about the “Train Man”.

But, the “Train Man” being glued to his book would not notice anything else. Then, one of her colleagues suggested that drop her ticket in front of him so that he picks up the ticket to return it to her. But that did not happen the way it was planned although he handed her the ticket an hour later. A nervous Zoe muttered thanks and that ended the conversation. After a while, on her birthday she thought ‘Everyone should do something a little bit frivolous on their birthday’ and decided to write him a letter. She handed it over to him and walked away as she did not want to see him read it. She had introduced herself in the letter and asked him out on a date. Zoe also mentioned that if the answer was no she would leave him alone.

She received a mail from at around 5:30 PM with the subject line ‘The guy on the train’. The letter read, “Thank you, that was a lovely thing to do, I would never have had the guts to do something like that. But unfortunately I have a girlfriend and I don’t think she’d like it if we went out for a drink. Happy birthday. Hope you have a nice day.” She was heartbroken and went back to being a silent passenger on the train.

While that ended, eight months later she received an email from the same man.

The date went well with both of them having to talk about things that they had in common.

Three months later they moved in together and three years after on a vacation he asked her a question: Will you marry me?

The couple is now married and has two children together. Zoe Folbigg has now written a book on her love story ‘The Note’. She was quoted saying, “I get emails from strangers around the world saying it has inspired them to give people notes on their commute. A girl in Australia did it on her bus to work. The Note is based on my experiences, but I didn’t want to make it autobiographical. It’s fiction so there are more juicy bits!”
