Tiger Shroff Compared His Female Co-Stars As Padding And Made A Sexist Remark About Actresses

Bollywood reeks of sexism and nepotism, period. There is no need for excuses and beating around the bush. There is a huge inconsiderate wage gap between the male and female actors. Nepotism is at the root of all new debuts that happen and it is perfectly okay for a much older male star to romance a 20-something young heroine, but if we have actresses who are older than the male stars then there is a big hue-and-cry about it. There are a few actresses who are fighting the constraints of regressive thinking and trying to rid Bollywood of sexism and misogyny like Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan and Anushka Sharma there are many like Salman Khan and Tiger Shroff who ensures that the sexism should always exist. This time around it was Tiger Shroff who compared his female stars to padding and made a crass sexist statement about them.

In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Tiger Shroff was asked about the leading ladies who are making their debut opposite him in Student of the Year sequel. Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughter Jhanvi Kapoor and Chunky Pandey’s daughter Ananya Pandey are making their debut opposite him in the movie. Tiger Shroff although did not want to give away much about his movie said this about his co-stars, “When I work with someone who is my junior, I know exactly what the person is going through. I’ve never felt the need to work with established actresses even though I have had the opportunity to work with the beautiful and fantastic Shraddha Kapoor (Baaghi) and Jacqueline Fernandez (A Flying Jatt).” However, he did not stop there and proceeded to make a sexist comment, “I don’t get involved with the casting at all. I don’t really care about the padding around me. It’s the script and my character that matter.” Sonam Kapoor walks the ramp at Paris Fashion Week 2017 wearing Ralph and Russo, made everyone’s heads turn in a White Bridal Wear!

The comment was hardly complimentary because it reduces the actresses in the movies to eye candies and items or props. It might be argued that he did not mean disrespect to the women and leading ladies but it does kind of imply that women in movies are there only for objectification and voyeurism.
