New Delhi: May the 4th is celebrated all over the world as Star wars day because it sounds like the epic Star Wars catchphrase ‘May The Force Be With You’. The widely loved George Lucas franchise is celebrated by fans all over the world on this day.

Lucasfilm has since also adopted this day to celebrate the Star Wars franchise. According to reports the saying ‘May The Fourth Be With You’ can be traced back to a news article congratulating Margaret Thatcher when she first took office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, it said, ” May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.”

The phenomenon finally caught on to an extent that the first organised Star Wars day took place in Toronto, Canada.

The Walt Disney company that bought Lucasfilm also bought the rights to Star Wars and since 2013 celebrates it in a different way at Disney World and Walt Disney World.

In 2015 the Star Wars day was celebrated by the astronauts at the International Space Station by watching The Last Jedi.
