During the Union Budget 2014 announcement Arun Jaitley announced that in order to boost the tourism sector in the nation, e-visas will be introduced at 9 airports in a phased manner throughout the country. This facility of electronic travel authorization will give a major boost to the tourism sector. Not only e-visas are being issued but also necessary infrastructural development will take place within next six months.
Also, the tourism sector was expecting this Union Budget 2014 to bring in Foreign Direct Investment to benefit the sector. 49% of Foreign Direct Investment is being proposed for the tourism sector. As the tourism department has been adversely affected by not being treated equal to exporters based in foreign exchange earnings before, this action is largely expected to boost and improve the current state of the tourism sector.
