Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has begun presenting the Union Budget 2014 in Parliament. Among other things, he has promised focus on women’s safety for which the Nirbhaya Fund has been created. He also said there will be special schemes for the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes of India. Special treatment will be given to senior citizens and the unutilised funds lying in provident fund accounts and post offices of older citizens or the deceased will be taken care of.
Giving emphasis to education, Jailtey said there will b 5 more IIMs, 5 more IITs, 12 more government medical colleges and additional facilities for further dental education. There will be an AIIMS medical college and hospital in 4 states.
The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune and the Satyajit Ray Film Institute in Kolkata will have special status.
