Jaw-dropping footage captures the moment of an Egyptian police officer who saved a young child’s life by being in the right place at the right time. Five-year-old Ammar Motaz Abd El-Salam was with his family at a party on Saturday in Asyut, a city on the Nile about 200 miles south of Cairo, when he tumbled from a third-story window toward the sidewalk below. Fortunately, the officer was on regular patrol a bank at street level. Security camera video catches the few moments after the officer, along with two colleagues, notices the boy dangling from the window overhead. They quickly jumped into action in an attempt to save the child. One of the officers spotted a carpet hanging off a nearby barricade and began unfolding it to use it as a safety net while the other officer rushed, presumably, to get help. With just seconds to spare, the third officer stood right under the building and spread his arms to catch the child.

Both the child and the officer collapsed on the ground. But thanks to the quick decision-making of the officer, the child’s drop to the ground was cushioned. According to a press statement by the Egyptian government, the child was unharmed while the officer who caught him sustained only minor injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. (Also read: Elephant Plays Mouth Organ in Coimbatore, Adorable Video Becomes Viral)

The CCTV captured the whole incident. Watch it below:

In an interview, Ammar’s mother said they were at an engagement party and her son climbed up onto a small table which toppled. She said because of the crowd, no one at the party noticed. “I was surprised when they came up and said a child fell from this apartment”, she added. His father said this was not the first time their son, whom they said suffers a brain condition, had been narrowly saved from injury in a fall or near-fall.
