Belgium faced United States for the round 16 match of FIFA World Cup 2014 at Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador. Belgium beat United States 2-1 in Salvador after extra-time of a thrilling second round match at the 2014 World Cup.

Throughout the game the Red Devils had 30 attempts on goal in the 90 minutes but could not find a way past United States’ goalkeeper Tim Howard, and the goalless match went into extra-time. Extra time goals from Kevin e Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku sent Belgium into the World Cup quarter-finals for first time in 28 years with a 2-1 win over the United States. The only other time in World Cup history United States has played Belgium was in the first tournament held in 1930 where Belgium had lost competitively to USA when they went down 3-0.
