Italy and Uruguay faced each other for the FIFA World Cup 2014 Group D match at Estadio das Dunas, Natal. Uruguay booked their place in the knock out session credited to a late goal from Diego Godin which eliminated their opponents Italy. Uruguay defeated Italy 1-0 in a controversial encounter in Natal.
Italy only needed a draw to advance while Uruguay needed to win this match. But surprisingly Uruguay had the better chances. The match was not much lifeless till the half time, but then it went on to change the game completely.
Diego Godin’s 81st minute header took them through to the knockout round. The game was a bit controversial, Italy centre back Giorgio Chiellini insisted that Uruguay striker Luis Suarez had bitten him, but despite it the referee did not blow his whistle and issue the red card which should have supposedly happened. Meanwhile Suarez was shown sitting on the ground holding his teeth suggesting that Chiellini was telling the truth. If Suarez is found guilty, it is inconceivable he will face anything other than a lengthy ban
