In a rare case of disregard to religious sentiments, 11 members of Parliament belonging to the Shiv Sena party allegedly forced a Muslim catering supervisor to break his fast for Ramazan. The incident happened last week at Maharashtra Sadan, in New Delhi. The Shiv Sena MPs forcefully shoved a chapatti into the mouth of the Muslim supervisor in New Delhi who was fasting for the Holy month of Ramazan.
As per the reports the complete religious intolerance issue occurred since the MPs were apparently angry over not being served Maharastrian food. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) that was catering at the venue stopped all operations in protest and complained to the Maharashta resident commissioner Bipin Mallick about the issue. Since the action on behalf of the Shiv Sena MPs was a blatant violation of the person’s religious practice
After hurting the religious sentiments of Arshad, the IRCTC deputy general manager Shankar Malhotra wrote an email to Maharashta resident commissioner Bipin Mallick on July 17, 2014. The complaint said the Shiv Sena MPs misbehaved with the staff at the public dining event and forced the resident manager Arshad to eat despite the fact he was observing fast for Ramzan.
The state government said that the issue will be looked into and examined properly and appropriate action will be taken.
