Honda's all-new groundbreaking 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that was first unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show is all set to mark its debut in the Euro-spec Honda Civic hatchback at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show that is slated to get underway on 27 September.
The new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine is the first of the new generation engines to appear in the next few years under the Honda's “Earth Dreams Technology” banner. It is rated at 120PS of max power at 4,000rpm and 300Nm of max torque at 2,000rpm.

Perhaps the biggest advantage comes in the engine’s light weight, with Honda claiming that it will be the lightest engine in its class, weighing less than a 1.6-litre petrol engine. The company is yet to reveal the average fuel consumption figures, however the automaker suggests that the CO2 emissions will be below 100g/km.
The 1.6-litre diesel powerplant will indeed make its way into the India-bound Honda Civic sedan sooner or later. But before that happens, we still have our bets laid on the smaller 1.2-litre diesel engine to arrive in the Indian market first – that could find home in the Honda Brio and possibly, also in the Jazz hatchback.
