Alongside the recently unveiled Audi A3 sedan, the carmaker from Ingolstadt also took the wraps off the S3 sedan at the 2013 New York Auto Show. It’s a no-brainer that like the S4 and the S6, the S3 sedan is the go-faster version of the A3 sedan that’s India-bound.

The S3 sedan differentiates itself from its sober counterpart with the trademark-red communication paint-job, sportier alloy-wheels, a rear-spoiler, quad-tailpipes, a single-frame grille, larger air-dams, brushed-metal finish ORVM housings and different side sills. On the inside, the S3 sedan gets the option of ‘S’ sports seats, instrumentation with grey dials, and trim-strips with black 3D embossing.

Under the hood is the Audi-favorite 2.0 TFSI petrol engine that puts out over 300 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h sprint times are claimed at 4.9s with an electronically governed top whack of 250 km/h. Depending on the automatic or S-tronic / manual gearbox, the fuel economy of the S3 is claimed at 14.49 kmpl or 14.28 respectively.

With those power and performance figures, the S3 sedan isn’t comparable to the more outrageous Mercedes Benz CLA45 AMG – which also debuted at the NY Motor Show – but that also means that the S3 sedan could command a more attractive price-tag. The S3 sedan will hit showroom floors soon after the commercial launch of the A3 sedan and knowing Audi, we can expect the duo to make their way into India soon.
