The 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 facelift was launched earlier this week to not much fanfare, but that does not mean that there is nothing new about this car. For a mid-life facelift, the Hyundai Grand i10 has received quite a few changes, including a new diesel engine that is bigger than the earlier one. But we ll get there in a moment. For now, let s see how the 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 facelift, in its fully furnished and undated avatar, works with the current leader in the class: the Maruti Suzuki Swift.

The Grand i10 is essentially a longer-wheelbase version of the European-spec model that was seen last year. It has a total length of 3,765mm, stretches 1,660 mm wide and is 1,520 mm tall. The Maruti Suzuki Swift, on the other hand, has a design that was last updated in 2014, although it was a mid-life facelift too. The Swift is about to undergo a generation change in 2017, and the new model is more stunning and sharp than the current one. 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 vs Maruti Suzuki Swift Interiors & features: Design and looks are subjective, but a comparison of the interiors and features of the two cars gives a clearer picture. With the 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 facelift, Hyundai has thrown everything and the kitchen sink into the mix. The Grand i10 gets the most features here, including some segment-firsts like a 7-inch touch-screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, rear seat air conditioning vents and a reversing camera. The Swift has not yet received an update that gets all these features, and so remains dated with a simple 2-DIN audio system at best. In terms of cabin space, the Swift is also lacking a little at the rear despite its larger dimensions. The Swift has a length of 3,850 mm, height of 1,530 mm and width of 1,695 mm. 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 vs Maruti Suzuki Swift Safety: Now, let s move to another critical point of comparison, which is safety. Look at the base variants of both cars, the Hyundai Grand i10 gets a single driver side airbag, as does the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Front passenger airbags are available only at the top end of both cars. The Grand i10 gets the added advantage of a reversing camera with the top-end Asta, but the Swift holds its own with an optional safety pack that includes ABS with EBD. In terms of power and torque, both cars get 1.2-litre units that deliver nearly equal figures. the Grand i10 s petrol variants deliver 82 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque, while the Swift offers 83 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque. But the Grand i10 s petrol unit has been tweaked for better mileage over the older one, delivering an ARAI fuel efficiency of 19.77 kmpl, which is higher than the 18.6 kmpl of the Maruti Swift.

As for the diesel power-train, the new Hyundai Grand i10 gets a bigger 1.2-litre engine than the older 1.1-litre unit, delivering 74 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque, with a fuel efficiency of 24.95 kmpl. The power and torque figures are the same as the 1.3-litre diesel motor under the hood of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, but the mileage figure is higher than that of the Swift, which offers 23.41 kmpl. 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 vs Maruti Suzuki Swift Pricing: Finally, let s look at the price points of both hatchbacks. Both the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Maruti Suzuki Swift get the same ex-showroom Delhi prices for their top-end petrol variants, at INR 6.40 lakh. However, Hyundai has managed to undercut the Swift by around INR 23,000 by pricing the base variant at INR 4.58 lakh, as opposed to the INR 4.81 lakh starting price of the Swift. When comparing the diesel variants, the Hyundai Grand i10 is once again priced lower at INR 5.68 lakh to INR 7.33 lakh, as compared to the Swift s INR 6.0 lakh to INR 7.47 lakh.
