Renault has released the first teaser image of it's brand new crossover called the 2014 Renault Captur. The newest Crossover from the French automaker will initially get detailed at the end of this week, January 11 and will then make it's global debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The four-door Captur Crossover has been derived from the athletic three-door Captur Coupe with a removable hard-top that was first displayed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

From the image, it is evident that the new Captur Crossover is very close to it's production-ready guise and has inherited the Renault family 'face' from the fourth generation Clio – in terms of the bold stretched radiator grille and wrap-around style front headlight unit.

In terms of size, the Captur sits between the Renault Clio and the Megane and is the second in a series of six 'human life-cycle' concepts from new Renault design chief Laurens Van den Acker – who recently stated that the company is defining a new ‘human’ design language inspired by three key words ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm’.

The Renault Captur Crossover rides on a modified version of the Renault-Nissan alliance's modular B-Platform, which also underpins the Clio Mk4 and the Nissan Juke.

Renault’s crossover is likely to come fitted with the Clio’s engine range, including the French firm’s new 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit and 1.5-litre turbodiesel, both producing 90hp. A 111hp 1.6 petrol and 110hp turbodiesel from the larger Megane could also be offered.

Once on the streets, the Renault Captur Crossover will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the recently unveiled Peugeot 2008 Crossover.
