BMW drives its Green Car of the Year i8 at 'FAME India Eco Drive 2015' for World Environment Day
German luxury carmaker BMW today celebrated the World Environment Day in India with absolute style. The carmaker the most stylish progressive hybrid sportscar was seen prying on the streets of Delhi with the ‘FAME India Eco Drive 2015.’ The BMW i8 was one of the highlight among 46 hybrid and electric vehicles that were present at the rally and also among the 14 vehicles that were displayed at ‘FAME India Eco Drive 2015’ later.

“The world we live in is changing and a changing world constantly demands new ideas. The global automotive industry is witnessing a paradigm shift from the conventional combustion engine to sustainable mobility solutions. And, so is India. This iconic change is inevitable,” said Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India.

Coming to the car itself, the smart plug-in hybrid system in the BMW i8 gives you the highest efficiency and maximum dynamics thanks to the combined benefits of its electric motor and a petrol engine, thus creating an exceptional driving experience. With BMW eDrive, the new BMW drive technology, the battery can be charged from any mains socket or while driving.
Coming back to its core offerings, the BMW i8 has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. While the engine efficiently produces 231PS of power and 320Nm of torque, the electric motor adds another 131PS and 250Nm to the i8 giving it a combined output of 362PS and 570Nm. The German carmaker claims that the i8 can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 250 kmph.
Moreover despite a large battery pack and a powerful engine, the car weighs just 1490kg, and it has a very low centre of gravity, thanks to is carbonfibre body. Another impressive characteristic is record low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, at an average of 40 km/l and emission of 59 g/km (provisional figures, according to the EU test cycle).
BMW i8, known to be the most progressive sportscar of its time, has also won the prestigious ‘World Green Car Award’ at the World Car Awards 2015.
