One of the frequent conversations between car enthusiasts has to be about the BMW M135i. More often than not we find ourselves talking about how beautifully the car creates a balance between practicality and fun. Since BMW doesn't make the 1-series M Coupe anymore, we often wonder if the M135i is BMW's practical yet fun to drive hatchback for the present times, if not a proper successor to the 1-series M Coupe.
And it looks like the people behind the German magazine Sport Auto also think the same, probably that's the reason why they took the M135i for a spin, a spin around the 'ring. Covering the North Loop (Nordschliefe) in an impressive 8 minutes 18 seconds, the M135i was 3 seconds slower than the 1-series M Coupe but a whole seven seconds faster than the E46 M3.
They used the standard M135i (rear wheel drive and manual transmission) for the test. For those who are new to the car, the car draws its power from a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six engine, which produces a max of around 320PS and 450Nm. The car does a maximum of 250kmph (electronically limited) and does a 0-100kmph in just a bit over 5 seconds. And now, to add to the already impressive specs of the car is its Nurburgring Nordschliefe laptime.
We strongly feel that BMW should make a new generation 1-series M Coupe, but for now, this is as close as it can get.
