BMW to Launch i8 Hybrid Tomorrow: Get preview on expected price, features and specifications of BMW i8
BMW India is all set to launch its Hybrid supercar BMW i8 in India. The launch which is slated for tomorrow will see the first i-series car to enter the Indian market. The BMW i8 will reach the Indian shores as CBUs (Completely Built Unit) and hence will come at a relatively premium cost. The German automaker is yet to announce the price for the India bound model, but we speculate it to be in the range of INR 1.5 – 2.0 crore.
The BMW i8 was initially introduced to the global market at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013, but in India it was first showcased only in 2014 at the Delhi Auto Show, where the makers confirmed that it will soon be launched in the country. The i8 will be the first of the i-series to be launched in India, which is soon to be followed by its smaller sibling, the BMW i3.
On the exterior front the BMW i8 looks very futuristic and extraterrestrial. What truly gives it an exemplary stance is, its low slung coupe-like structure, draped in the silver shade with blue accents. With aggressive design elements and tastefully crafted body the BMW i8 looks slick and holds an attention grabbing persona.
The engine powering this mean machine is as noteworthy as its artistic design. The BMW i8 is put to life by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 231PS of power and 320Nm of torque. Additionally it also gets an electric motor that adds another 131PS and 250Nm to the i8 giving it a combined output of 362PS and 570Nm. BMW claims that i8 can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.4 seconds and it has a limited top speed of 250kmph. What adds to the i8’s performance is that the car is primarily built out of carbon fibre and even though it has a large battery pack, the i8 weighs just 1490kg.
