Ford India certainly wants to market the EcoSport aggressively. Following, the recent success of Renault’s Duster, even Ford is hoping to bank in on the growing popularity of compact SUVs in India. The company is betting heavily on the EcoSport and has said that 80 per cent of the components will be locally made, allowing localization levels to match those of the Figo hatchback and the Classic sedan.
“It will be our second Global SUV Ecosport. It will have around similar localisation levels of Figo and Classic” Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India, was reported saying. At present, the Figo and the Classic have about 80 per cent of the components locally made. Mr. Boneham also said that the EcoSport will be made available with both petrol and diesel engines.

As a part of its plan to add eight new models from its global platforms by mid-decade, Ford has set up its second manufacturing plant in India at Sanand, Gujarat. Meanwhile, the company’s next launch will be an upgraded version of its popular small car, the Figo. This new version is expected to get a few high-end features like keyless entry and a stop/start button.
