GST Cess Hike on Cars: Toyota Fortuner, Innova Crysta, Corolla Altis, Platinum Etios Prices Increased by up to INR 1.6 Lakh

Cars like Toyota Fortuner, Innova Crysta, Corolla Altis and Platinum Etios have been highly affected from the cess increase.

Earlier this week, the GST Council passed an ordinance to increase cess on mid-size sedans, SUVs and luxury cars. Following the ruling, an additional cess has been levied on cars above 4 meters in length along with SUVs and luxury sedans in the range of 2-7 percent. This has heavily impacted the SUV segment (especially Toyota Kirloskar Motors), which has received the highest cess increase of 7 percent. This has resulted in Toyota increasing prices of its cars by up to INR 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota has increased the prices of Toyota Fortuner by up to INR 1.6 lakh, while the prices of Innova Crysta have been increased by up to INR 78,000. Furthermore, the prices of the new Toyota Corolla Altis have been increased by up to INR 72,000, while those of the Toyota Platinum Etios have been increased by up to Rs. 13,000. That said, prices of the Etios Liva and the Etios Cross remain unchanged as the car falls under the sub 4-meter bracket, while the Camry Hybrid is unaffected as well. Speaking about the increase in prices of Toyota cars, N Raja, Director and Senior VP Marketing and Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, said, “Following the ordinance on GST amendment, we have to revise the price of our products in line with the cess hike which may nearly reflect the prices in the pre-GST scenario”.
