Benelli, the Italian bike maker, is believed to be developing an all-new 300 cc adventure tourer for emerging markets. While reports suggest that this bike will be named as Benelli TRK 302, we are yet to get official details on the same. That said, we have come across first ever images of the 300 cc Sport Tourer from Benelli, which are believed to be clicked at DSK-Benelli’s facility in India. However, we would advice our viewers to take this rumour with a pinch of salt. If this is true, then this might be the erstwhile Benelli TRK 302 that might be launched in India by mid 2018.
Benelli 300cc Sport Tourer Spied at an Indian Dealership
As can be seen from the images, the Benelli 302 Sport Tourer is based on the TNT 300 platform. The bike gets a muscular fuel tank, bikini fairing with high-mounted windshield and split seats. The bike also gets panniers along with a rear top box to complete the adventure tourer design. The Benelli 300 cc Sport Tourer is expected to share its engine with the TNT 300, however, the engine will come with a different state of tune to provide better torque delivery at lower revs. Interesting times are ahead for Indian adventure touring enthusiasts if at all DSK-Benelli plans to launch this bike in India. Benelli 300cc Sport Tourer Rear Profile, Panniers & Top Box
When questioned about the company’s launch plans for this bike, Mr. Shirish Kulkarni said, “We already have a prototype of this bike ready, but we are not sure about the launch plans. We might consider launching this bike in India, but then our product portfolio will be too cluttered”. In terms of design, the bike will be developed as a completely new product and will take design inspiration from the Benelli TRK 502. Also, the TRK 302 will sport a completely new chassis and suspension setup along with spoke wheels, off-road tyres and switchable ABS. If launched in India, the Benelli TRK 302 will rival the Royal Enfield Himalayan, upcoming KTM 390 Adventure and the BMW G310 GS. Benelli TRK 502 (The TRK 302 will be based on this)
The new Benelli TRK 302 will be powered by a 300 cc twin-cylinder engine that also powers the TNT 300 and the Benelli 302R. This engine produces 38 BHP of power and 26.5 Nm of torque on these bikes. However, the same engine will be tuned differently to develop better low-end and mid-range torque on the Benelli TRK 302, which is necessary for an adventure tourer. We can expect DSK-Benelli to launch the TRK 302 in India by mid 2018.
