Bajaj Auto will soon revamp its entire model line-up by the end of this year. Rajiv Bajaj, CEO and MD, Bajaj Auto, has said that the company will launch new models in each of its seven-model product portfolio. This means product lines like Bajaj Dominar, Pulsar Series, Avenger, V, Discover, Platina and CT will get new models/variants by December 2017. This is an aggressive product strategy by Rajiv Bajaj plan to increase its market share which has fallen to about 15 percent in the last quarter. According to Bajaj, the company will look to increase its market share to 26 percent by the end of FY2017 (March 2018), as stated by him to the shareholders at the annual general meeting. Speaking to ET Auto, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj said, “By December, we will launch new products under all our seven brands: CT, Platina, Discover, V, Avenger, Pulsar, Dominar. Our effort is to gain 6% market share -we have grown from 14-20%, we will move from 20-26% and we will do this by maintaining EBITDA.” Mr. Bajaj revealed that the company’s retail market share was around 20% and expects it to reflect in wholesale numbers within the next quarter. A few months back there were reports about Bajaj launching a scrambler-style motorcycle based on the Dominar platform, while the company recently trademarked the ‘Adventurer’ brand name, suggesting a launch of an adventure touring motorcycle in the coming few months. If not the above mentioned two motorcycles, Bajaj might surprise everyone with the fully-faired version of the Dominar (RS 400?). Moving on to the Bajaj Pulsar range, the company recently launched the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 in India. We expect the company to launch the Pulsar NS 200 FI ABS in India. This bike is already being manufactured in India and is exported to Turkey. Furthermore, there is media speculation about Bajaj Auto planning to launch a larger displacement Bajaj Avenger in India to compete against more established players like Royal Enfield. That said, The Bajaj V brand has seen tremendous success since its launch in India in February 2016. Bajaj has the V15 and the V12 in its product portfolio and we can expect the company to launch a V20/V22, based on the 220 cc engine platform. As for the Bajaj Discover, Platina and the CT brands, we can expect new variants or special edition models to be launched in India.
