2012 Ford EcoSport production model revealed!

New spy shots from Brazil show the Ford EcoSport without any camouflage.

The Ford EcoSport has become a hot topic of discussion ever since the concept model was shown to us back in January 2012. A series of spy shots from China and South America followed, but hardly any of those have shown the actual design of the EcoSport’s production model.

However, now the blokes at the Brazilian automotive portal Noticias Automotivas have got their hands on photos the EcoSport that were taken while the little crossover went in for its crash tests. As you would expect there is no camouflage at all – therefore revealing the exterior design of the EcoSport. The production ready model seems to have retained the aggression that the concept showcased – and the headlights, even after losing their all-LED treatment from the concept, look stunning. The large grille, which is the most striking element of the evolved kinetic-design philosophy of the Ford cars, has been given a brushed aluminum finish as opposed to the all-chrome treatment on the concept model. Same is the case with the fog-lamp surrounds too.

The taillights are more or less similar to what we saw on the concept model. The interiors of the EcoSport will be an evolution of the design that you see in the new Ford Fiesta sedan. The design of the alloy wheels is exactly similar to the concept form and the Brazilian blog confirms that the test mule seen in the photos uses 15-inch rims with Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres. The variant caught on test here is called the ‘Freestyle’. 

The production version of the Ford EcoSport is expected to debut at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that will produce close to 120PS of power. We expect a late-2012 / early-2013 entry for the EcoSport in the Indian market with a starting price in the range of Rs 7 to 8 lakh rupees.
