2012 Volvo XC60 launched

Volvo India has launched the 2012 version of the Crossover SUV XC60 with a downsized diesel engine, D3 at a starting price of Rs 34.4 lakh in the country. The top-end variant, Summum will come with a price tag of Rs 37.4 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.)

The D5, five-cylinder turbo diesel engine that powered the out-going model has been detuned to derive the D3 engine, which is housed in the new 2012 Volvo XC60. The D3, 3-cylinder engine will produce 163PS of max power and 400Nm of max torque. The engine will come mated to an automatic six-speed transmission with four-wheel drive system.

The Volvo XC60 will challenge the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in the Indian market. It is worth noting that Volvo XC60 is brought into the country via the CBU route, while the X3 and Q5 are assembled through CKD kits in the country and yet,Volvo has been able to price the Crossover lower than its aforementioned competitors. With the heavy price reduction of the diesel-powered XC60, the 2012 version of the Crossover would definitely be a tough contender to beat. The only point of concern for Volvo is the lack of well-established sales and service network in India.
