2013 Frankfurt Motor Show: Latest-gen Mercedes Benz S63 AMG makes its world debut

At the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes Benz has officially unveiled what can be only described as the ultimate luxury sport sedan – the all-new 2014 S63 AMG. This new high-performance version based on Mercedes’ flagship offering is set to go on sale globally in November this year.

The latest-gen S63 AMG gets a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine producing 585PS of power and 900Nm of torque! The same engine powers the S version of the E63 AMG; however, it makes 100Nm less in the E63 AMG. Thanks to a lightweight construction based on the ‘AMG Lightweight Performance’ philosophy, the 2014 S63 AMG is up to 100 kg lighter than its predecessor.

This new model is also available with the performance-oriented 4-MATIC all-wheel drive system as an option for the first time. Thanks to the all-wheel drive traction, the car takes just 4 seconds to hit 100kmph from standstill. The rear-wheel drive-only models, on the other hand, take 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.

The bi-turbo V8 engine is paired with AMG’s super-quick SpeedShift 7-speed automatic gearbox. ESP is standard across the range and so is Curve Dynamic Assist, which applies brakes to individual rear wheel to help the car corner more precisely.

With prices starting at around £120,000 (Rs 1.20 crore) the 2014 Mercedes S63 AMG goes up against the likes of Audi S8 and the much sportier BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
