2013 Frankfurt Motor Show: Two new concepts from Smart

Popular microcar maker Smart is said to introduce two new concept models at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Daimler AG-owned brand will reportedly preview next generation models of the Fortwo and Forfour in the form of the two new concepts.

Built around a new rear engine/rear wheel drive platform developed with Renault-Nissan, the third-generation Fortwo microcar and the second generation Forfour four-seater hatchback will go into production next year. 

Te same platform will form the basis for the third generation Renault Twingo small car.The upcoming Fortwo will make use of a new 900cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The engine will produce around 65PS of power as a naturally aspirated unit, while more powerful 85PS and 105PS versions will feature a turbocharger. The Forfour, on the other hand, will get a more powerful version of the Fortwo’s turbocharged engine.
