The all-new Macan is undoubtedly one of Porsche’s most waited models in recent times. After been caught wearing camouflage quite a few times, the upcoming premium mid-size SUV has finally been caught in Germany in production-ready spec.
The Macan is said to be based on the same modular MLB platform that underpins the Audi Q5. The Porsche, however, will benefit from weight saving of around 100kg over the Q5, thanks to greater use of aluminum components. Like the Q5, the Macan will be sold as a four-wheel drive vehicle only. The latter is expected to make use of six cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with more efficient four cylinder units coming in during the latter part of its lifecycle.
The market for mid-size luxury SUVs is already on the rise, with cars like the Range Rover Evoque and the Audi Q5 that are exceptionally good at blending luxury and performance with daily utility. With Porsche now entering the field, it will be interesting to see how the long awaited Macan fares.
