Honda Cars India Limited, the Indian wing of the Japanese automobile manufacturer is ready to take the wraps off the new generation Honda Accord which is returning to India after an earlier stint that existed for only a short span of 5 years in the market. The same was pulled out of production from India in 2013 due to poor demand but will once again be launched in its all new avatar. Currently running in its 9th generation, the Accord is already on sale in several international markets and will be premiered in India this festive season. It packs an all new design along with a powerful and fuel efficient hybrid engine, two major points which are going to emerge as its major USP in India. It will be competing against the likes of Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry Hybrid.
The 2016 Honda Accord was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi and earned a lot accolades from the enthusiasts. This feature loaded luxury sedan will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder I-VTEC petrol engine which will team up with a 124 KW AC synchronous permanent magnet electric motor that punches out a combined power of 196 bhp along with a massive 306 nm of torque. The transmission responsibilities will handled by an e-CVT unit which will send the power to the front wheels.
The Honda Accord exteriors feature a futuristic design. Up-Front one gets projector halogen headlights, LED daytime running lamps with Auto on/off tech and a thick chrome grill. The side profile gives out exceptional road presence as it is almost similar in dimensions to a BMW 5-series as the Accord is 4,889 mm in length, 1849 mm in width, 1465 mm in height. The 17 inch alloy wheels look modish and justify its premium badging. Coming to the rear end, it has LED tail lights, an integrated spoiler and chrome tipped exhausts. The interiors are opulent and boast of premium material quality and are generous in space as well. The leather trimmed seats provide ample support for lower back and thighs. The car is loaded with features such as a 10-way adjustable driver's seat. The instrument cluster gets an MID (multi information display) which shows all the important information relating related to the vehicle like the tyre pressure, average speed, shift lever, engine temperature and exterior temperature comprehensively. The central console gets a 7.7 inch touch screen infotainment unit which has Apple Carplay, Honda Link and Android Auto connectivity. The output is provided by a 360 Watt, 7 speaker premium audio system with sub-woofers. Other than that, there is auto climate control, rain sensing wiper, electrically foldable ORVMs to name a few. The 2016 Honda Accord will come equipped with safety features like ‘lane keeping assist system’, adaptive cruise control system, Honda Sensing, ABS (anti lock braking system) with EBD (Electronic Brake force distribution) systems and 7 airbags.
The Honda Accord hybrid mileage is expected to be close to 20 kmpl. The prices of the same is expected to fall under the bracket of INR 27 lakh to INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom) hence it will emerge as worthy competitor to the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
