New Delhi: Six years since its first launch, Ertiga MPV was launched in an all-new avatar on Wednesday at a starting price of Rs 7.44lakh (ex-showroom). The seven-seater MPV has been a firm favourite among families in the country and in its latest upgrade, brings an array of styling and mechanical changes to woo Indian buyers.

On the outside, the car is defined by its double-barrel headlamps, chrome grille, 20-spoke alloys and waterfall-themed taillights. While the overall visual profile of the car remains similar to the outgoing model, the new Ertiga is 99mm longer and 40mm wider which translates into more space on the inside.

The car continues to have a wheelbase of 2740mm but it now has more space for third-row passengers who can also now individually recline their seats. Boot space has gone up from 135 litres in the outgoing model to 153 litres.

The Ertiga also gets a dash makeover with bits and pieces taken from its Maruti siblings. While the cabin mostly appears similar to that of the Dzire, the instrument cluster is taken from S-Cross and Ciaz. There is also a floating infotainment screen with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The biggest upgrade though is under the hood. The new Ertiga now gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine with the mild-hybrid SHVS system instead of the 1.4 unit which has done the rounds so far. The new performance figures stand at 105Ps/138Nm. The ARAI-approved mileage is at 19.34kmpl (petrol manual) and 18.69kmpl (petrol automatic).

There are no changes made to the diesel unit and the same DDis 200, 1.3-litre turbocharged unit with SHVS mild hybrid system remains.

On the safety front, the car gets ABS with EBD, dual airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill Hold Assist. The company says 35 crash tests from different sides was performed on the car to ensure it complies with Indian safety regulations.
