This is the third recall by TKM for the model in India in 2015. Not just Toyota, Nissan and Honda have also been part of a global recall for older generation models featuring Takata airbags. Earlier this year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (Indian subsidiary of the Japanese maker) had recalled Corolla models produced between July 2003 and March 2007. In 2014, the company recalled 5,834 units of the diesel Corolla manufactured during the period of June 2010 to May 2011. This recall was issued to replace faulty components that led to the entry of engine oil into the air intake system.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor's official spokesperson said, “As an expansion of the existing service campaign being held voluntarily by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), and in line with the global recall by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), we have announced a special service campaign for the passenger side airbag in the Corolla model to be extended to Corolla models manufactured during April 2007 till June 2008”.
