When was the last time that you gave a standing ovation to an automobile manufacturer for pricing its products just right? It was just a day ago that Ford announced the prices for the EcoSport and it deserves a standing ovation, doesn't it? The EcoSport is a very good if not great product and the pricing can help it annihilate the competition.
The crossover body style not just makes it look attractive but also helps Ford make a mark in the new compact SUV segment. The vehicle is a tad below four meters in length, which is one of the reasons behind the almost unbelievable pricing. Available in three engine options, namely 1.5-litre petrol, 1-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre diesel, the EcoBoost range is spread wide enough to have a product for everyone with a pocket size between Rs 5.6 lakh and Rs 8.99 lakhs and a preference for a five-seater compact SUV. Ford's EcoBoost is a turbocharged petrol engine, that despite its small capacity (1-litre) churns out a very decent power figure (125PS) while the other two engines are shared with the current Fiesta. But unlike what happened with the Fiesta, the general consensus is that the EcoSport looks good. With a very distinct front end, you can expect a lot of heads turning towards you when you drive the vehicle.
And grabbing attention won't be a big task as the EcoSport will be available in a total of seven colour options with Mars Red being the official communication shade. The spec sheet for the EcoSport is impressive, especially the Titanium and Titanium Opt variants. On the inside, its crossover genes help. You get to sit higher than how you would in a car but the cabin is more car-like. It can seat five and carry a fair amount of luggage too.
