While you must have read reports of car prices going up from January 2013 because of rise in input costs, the month of December is just the opposite. Cars are being sold with heavy discounts. And it's not about clearing the old stock, even the newly launched cars like the Alto 800, Nissan Evalia, Chevrolet Sail etc. are either on sale at a discounted price or there's a long list of freebies accompanying the new car. Car sales have suffered this year, especially with not many sales during the festive season too. According to a report by the Economic Times, sales in November this year hit a four year low.

So if you're planning to buy a car in December, here's a good chance to grab some discounts too.

A flat discount of Rs 16,000 on the on-road price of the Alto 800 is being offered. The car has been doing good in the market and Maruti surely doesn't want to lose the opportunity of upping the sales figures. Other hatchbacks like Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Tata Indica and Toyota Liva can be had with discount packages, freebies and exchange offers of up to Rs 60,000.
