BS4-complaint HM Ambassador coming soon

Although Hindustan Motors has revamped the Ambassador (if one can call it a revamp) quite a few times in its 50-year plus lifecycle, the car complies with BS3 emission norms only. Sales of the Amby, as it is cordially called, in the major metropolitan cities had been banned since April 2011, a year after BS4 norms came into play.

Hindustan Motors have recently announced that the company will soon launch the Ambassador with BS4 complaint diesel engine, which means the age-old offering from one of the oldest carmakers in India, will be seen plying on metropolitan roads again.

The new Ambassador will be powered by a 1.5 litre BS4-compliant diesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the current unit produces around 36 PS of power and 73Nm of torque, we expect the BS4-complaint engine to retain the power output.
