Nissan has been facing some heavy criticism for the inadequate safety features that are offered by Datsun India. Additionally the Global NCAP has also been urging Nissan to remove the GO hatchback from the Indian market, mainly for its poor structural strength and negligible safety features, especially after it failed the NCAP crash test.
Besides these, seeing the repercussions of the recent case of Jhanvi Ghadkar, where the Reliance Industries’ VP rammed her Audi Q3 onto a Maruti Ecco cab taking the lives of the driver and front passenger, questions are being raised on the credibility of budget passenger cars. It seems as though Nissan has taken all these aspects into consideration and the introduction of Airbags in the GO series is how it plans to enhance its image in the Indian market.
Coming to the cars itself, apart for the addition of optional airbags both the Datsun GO and GO+ remain unchanged. Under the hood both are powered by the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is tuned to produce 68 PS of power at 5000 RPM and 104 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of fuel efficiency both the cars come with a mileage of 20.6 kmpl.
