Datsun redi-GO 1.0L India launch today; Price in India likely to start from INR 3.5 lakh

The bigger and powerful derivative Datsun redi-GO 1.0L will be launched in India today which will be pitted against Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto K10 and the likes.

In order to stiff the rivalry in the lucrative 1-litre small car space, Datsun is all set to launch more powerful version of redi-GO in India today. To be pitted against the rivals like Maruti Alto K10 and Renault Kwid 1.0-litre, the bigger Datsun redi-GO is likely to be priced in the range of INR 3.5 lakh to INR 4 lakh (ex-showroom). The bigger Redi-GO will be available in two variants – T(O) & S. It will be powered by the same 1-litre 3-cylinder, petrol engine which is also equipped on French cousin – Kwid 1.0L that is tuned to develop 67 bhp of max power against 91 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of dimension, the new Datsun redi-GO measures 3429mm in length, 1560mm in width, 1541mm in height and wheelbase of 2348mm along with ground clearance of 185mm. The redi-Go, when it arrives with the 1.0-litre engine, will not feature any other cosmetic or feature updates; just like the Kwid did not get, primarily in order to keep the prices competitive. The 1.0-litre engine is likely to be made available in the top-spec and mid-spec variants of the Redi Go , with their prices slotted 25,000 to 30,000 premium of the 0.8-litre variant. Currently, the prices for the Datsun Redi Go  in India are slotted at INR 2.38 lakh for the base variant while the top of the line version costs INR 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Datsun redi-Go 1000cc when launched will primarily compete against the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre. The Redi Go , in comparison to other cars in the entry level hatchback segment, sports a stylish exterior profile which has managed to attract the fancy of many. The only turn-off that this car possesses is the rather sub-standard material quality. With the upgrade to the more powerful engine, do not expect that to change. In order to provide a bit of omph to the Redi Go , datsun recently introduced a ‘Sport’ edition of the hatchback, which received a number of feature upgrades as well as a number of styling cues on the exterior front.

It could be the case that Datsun might just introduce the 1.0-litre (1000cc) engine in the Sport model as well. Currently the the Redi Go  Sport costs INR 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to own.
