We’ve heard of quite a few powerful cars rolling out of start-up garages, but not quite like this one. The Bass 770, built by a start-up company called Equus, doesn’t try to be a slippery-lizard-on-wheels like the SSC Tuatara or a 400 km/h porcelain commode like the Bugatti Veyron L'or Blanc. Instead, like the Morgan exotics, the Equus Bass 770 is a modern take on the classic car, or the ‘merican muscle car to be precise.

The design reminds us of the Ford Mustang fastback or a Chevy Camaro and it looks absolutely stunning! But what widens our smile is the hardware under the long nose – a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. It develops a tyre-shredding 640 PS of power and pushes the not-so-aerodynamic body of the Bass 770 from naught to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 320 km/h! Oh, and it comes with a manual gearbox.

The Bass 770 gets leather upholstery and Alcantara roof-lining along with new-age creature comforts like a CD/DVD/USB/Sat-Nav compatible infotainment system, cruise control, climate control and tyre-pressure monitoring. Sounds like an Audi there, doesn’t it? Speaking of which, the Equus Bass 770 is priced at $ 235,000 – which is close to Rs 1.7 crore. That is as much as an Audi R8 and that too without even calculating the import duties!
