Ferrari 488 GTB Announced: Ferrari unveils 488 GTA, the successor to 458 Italia

Italian sportscar maker Ferrari recently announced the successor to its mid-engined supercar 458 Italia. The car which will be replacing the legendary 458 Italia, often addressed as the finest supercars money can buy, will be the new, improved 488 GTB. Equipped with a V8 Turbocharged engine the upcoming 488 GTB will the Prancing Horse’s first rear mid-engined supercar since the Ferrari F40. 

On the primary level it is the same 458 Italia but with some major tweaks in terms of design, mechanism, engine specification and interior styling. On the design front gives you the basic feel of the 458 and one of the major updates is the addition of air vents on the side, which has been added for better cooling. Other noticeable changes include the tweaked front-end design, which is considerably inspired by Ferrari’s latest hybrid prodigy, the LaFerrari. The rear design of the 488 GTB looks much improved in terms of styling thanks to the speciale-like rear diffuser and exhaust arrangement.

The biggest upgrade to this new Prancing Horse is going to be its exclusive powerhouse. Under the hood the 488 GTB will be powered by an exhilarating twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre engine that is efficient enough to produce an overwhelming 669.2 PS of peek power at 8000rpm and 759.25 Nm of peek torque at 3000rpm. It surpasses both the 458 Speciale producing 605.3 PS and the 458 Italia that produces 569.8 PS. 

Mated to an improved 7-speed double clutch gearbox, the 488 GTB can sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.0sec (same as the 650S), 0-124mph in 8.4sec (0.1 sec faster than the 650S) and reach a top speed of 205mph. Ferrari has announced that the Ferrari 488 GTB will go into production from September 2015, after the 458 Italia range gets discontinued this summer.
