Showcased in 2008, the Fisker Karma drew quite a few eyeballs. With Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore, and Colin Powell being the first customers of the car which will finally be up on sale this month, followed by another 3000 people. You may think it a Prius replacement – which it may be, but it certainly is a very fast one.
The Fisker Karma is a hybrid Vehicle powered by two motors which produce around 409PS of power. Also in use is a very frugal 2.2L petrol engine which is used only to power the batteries and is not connected to the wheels. 22kWh Lithium ion batteries and a 175kW generator are used in the hybrid.  The two motors producing 204PS each can produce torque figures of 1300Nm which is quite mind-boggling for a hybrid. The Karma is capable of touching 100kmph from a standstill in 5.8 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 201kmph.

Fisker Karma ready for launch

The car features a solar panelled roof which can produce 0.5kWh per day and can provide an additional range of up to 8km per week apart from maintaining the cabin temperature and recharging the batteries. Also on offer are bigger solar panels which are to be installed at the place of charging and can be used as the sole power source to charge the Karma.
The range of the car is about 80km on the Lithium ion batteries alone and the 2.2-litre petrol engine powering the batteries adds another 402km to the range. The battery can be completely charged in under 14 hours. The interiors of the Fisker Karma use plenty of wood and leather, all of which comes from sources which do not harm nature in any way.
Pricing? Well, all the ways to save nature come at a cost. The Karma has is priced from $95,900 (approx Rs 42,69,000)to $108,900 (approx Rs 48,48,000) in the United states. The car will be launched later this month and Leonardo DiCaprio will be the owner of the first Fisker Karma.
