With this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Ford GT made a glorious return with the unveiling of the sleek and sporty new Supercar. A successor to the 2005 Ford GT, the all new GT Supercar is truly built to perfection and the company plans to launch it in 2017 and the production will commence in the latter half of 2016. Reports indicate that the car was very secretly developed in the company’s Product Development Centre in Dearborn and its existence was not revealed up until a month ago. Ford will make a limited number of GTs for sale in the second half of 2016. It will be a global car but the first sales will be in the U.S., said Executive Chairman Bill Ford. The 2017 Ford GT Supercar is powered by a unique 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost engine that produces a massive 600 PS, which is comparatively more powerful than its peers. The engineers could pull this much of horsepower from a V6 because the EcoBoost engine has been derived from the Daytona prototype racing engine, which went through a yearlong testing. The cars chief engineer Jamal Hameedi said, “The GT supercar has more than just a pretty face. It’s got a lot of Car Fibre technology used in it like, a carbon fibre monocoque tub, carbon fibre body, carbon fibre breaks and active aerodynamics along with a powerful and robust V6 EcoBoost engine.” Also for the first time Ford has used a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, he added.

As for its second revelation, Ford introduced the next-generation 2017 F-150 Raptor high-performance, off-road pickup. This facelifted Raptor presented at Detroit sported a compactly redesigned fascia with re-designed inlet projector headlamps and a new grille. The new Raptor is almost 500 lbs lighter thanks to the latest generation F-150's aluminium body. According to Ford’s Vice President Joe Hinrichs, it is the toughest, smartest and most capable F150 ever. He also added that the new Raptor has the best in class payload and towing capability along with 11 class exclusive features. The next generation F150 Raptor will be more fuel efficient thanks to its 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost Engine, which according to the company can deliver more horsepower and torque than current Raptor’s 411-horsepower, 588Nm, 6.2-liter V8 engine.

“When we created the first Raptor, we set out to prove vehicle performance isn’t just measured on the street or at the track – off-road can be even more fun,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “The original Raptor, plus enhancements on the all-new F-150 set the bar for us to make the all-new Raptor better in every way.”

The third product from Ford was the Shelby GT350R Mustang, a stripped down, track-ready and street legal version of the GT350, which was shown in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Mr. Nair said that like the original the new GT350R has been designed and engineered to deliver a never before seen track capability from a Mustang. The innovations have been made in aerodynamics, chassis engineering and light weight. The car gets revised front air splitter and a new wing at the back to produce more down force. As for it suspension the company has completely retuned it and has added a Ford-first shock damping system tunes for aggressive racing.

The three are among the more than 12 new Ford performance vehicles coming by 2020 as the automaker has reorganized its regional performance divisions into a single global unit. Ford wants to take advantage of a 70% increase in performance vehicle sales in the U.S. and a 14% increase in Europe.
