Ford India has planned to call out 39, 315 units of their popular hatchback Ford Figo’s old version and Fiesta Classic sedan which were manufactured at their Chennai plant between the period of 2004 and 2012. Ford India says that this is a voluntary inspection on the company’s part and will be checking the technical soundness of both the vehicles manufactured during this period. However, it is likely that the recall has been done to rectify a faulty power assisted steering wheel (PAS) hose. Even Ford South Africa issued a similar recall to the owners yesterday where around 15,600 similar cars are expected to be affected by the same problem. This is because of the reason that the units manufactured at Ford’s Chennai facility are also exported to the South African market.
Ford has been showing commitment towards its customers base and has been working on improving its image with easy to maintain cars. Prior to this recall, the company had also called out 1,66,021 units of Figo and Fiesta Classic models in September 2013 to replace faulty rear twist beam and the power steering hose. On the other hand, last year Ford India recalled 42,300 units of the current generation of Figo hatchback and the Figo Aspire compact sedan to rectify a software problem which could prevent the airbags from opening in case of a frontal collision. Even Ford Ecosport compact SUV was under the radar due to the problems relating to a faulty brake line, fuel lines and an issue relating to its rear seat.
If you are one of the owners of the vehicles manufactured during that period, then fret not as the Ford dealers will get in touch with you by themselves and the potential hazard will be taken care of by Ford India.
