As the nation comes to grips with the new Goods and Service Tax Bill (GST), buyers for new automobiles have a lot to rejoice for. Country’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited have now announced that the prices of its entire product portfolio, except for a few, are reduced by 3 percent. Under GST, small cars, of which Maruti Suzuki is the largest producer is to attract a lower tax rate of 29 percent as opposed to earlier’s 31.2 percent. This has resulted in a decrease of prices which ranges from INR 5,000 to 22,000 for Maruti cars in India. Going by this, the post GST prices of the Maruti Suzuki Swift ranged from INR 4.80 to 7.46 lakh which is now to go down to INR 4.79 to 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) post-GST. Maruti Suzuki’s one of the biggest successes, the Baleno premium hatchback, which earlier retailed at a range of INR 5.28 to 8.43 lakh, due to the GST effect, is now going to cost INR 5.26 to 8.42 lakh. Another recent launch from Maruti, the Ignis urban compact hatchback will now retail in the range of INR 4.56 to 7.30 lakh as opposed to the earlier INR 4.59 to 7.46 lakh. The largest selling utility vehicle in India, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, is now to fall in the price range of INR 7.23 to 9.69 lakh in comparison to INR 7.26 to 9.70 lakh before GST was implemented. The largest selling vehicle in India, the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is too benefit from the new GST scheme. This entry level hatchback used to cost INR 2.46 to 3.25 lakh own is now to retail at a price spectrum of INR 2.45 to 3.24 lakh. Alto 800’s biggest brother, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10’s prices are now to retail in the range of INR 3.26 to 3.79 lakh as opposed to INR 3.27 to 4.16 lakh before the GST. Maruti Suzuki Dzire, it’s recently updated compact sedan is now to retail in-between the price range of INR 5.42 to 9.39 lakh in comparison to INR 5.45 to 9.41 lakh. Two of the other small car from the Indo-Japanese automaker, the Celerio and the Wagon R will now fall in the price range of INR 4.03 to 5.10 lakh to INR 4.10 to 5.34 lakh respectively. That said, two of Maruti’s mild-hybrid cars, equipped with its SHVS technology, the Ciaz and the Etiga are to feature a jump in their respective prices. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, which earlier used to cost in-between the price range of INR 7.72 to 9.56 lakh will now see an increase of INR 1.88 lakh and cost INR 7.65 to 11.44 lakh to own. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga on the other hand will now fall in the range of INR 8.56 to 10.44 lakh to own, featuring a jump of INR 1.69 lakh.
