Maruti Suzuki India, country’s leading car maker is making efforts to clear off the stocks by luring customers by giving out discounts on its popular models. The Indo-Japanese carmaker is offering extended discount of INR 25,000 to INR 35,000 on Alto, Swift, WagonR & Celerio. On the other hand, Hyundai India too doesn’t want to be left behind, as a result, the South Korean car maker aims to attract buyers with heavy discounts. The car maker is offering pre-GST benefits throughout its model range that includes discounts of INR 45,000 on Hyundai Eon, INR 62,000 to INR 73,000 on Grand i10. Other popular models like Verna and Xcent are also offered with a discount of INR 80,000 to INR 90,000 and INR 25,000 respectively till June 26. Moreover, Honda Cars India has implemented an innovative scheme for addressing the dilemma by assuring compensation to the buyers in event of a decline in vehicle prices post GST implementation. A Delhi-based dealer of Honda Cars India informed that, “If vehicle prices decline post GST, the company will directly refund the difference to the consumer. The buyer is not required to pay any additional amount if price of the model purchased goes up from July. Other manufacturers like Volkswagen and Nissan, too, are offering lucrative deals on their product line-up. As a part of this offer, VW is looking to attract buyers with benefits of up to INR 76,000 to INR 1 lakh on Polo and Vento cars provided its needs to be booked till June 20 and fully billed till June 30. Nissan, on the other hand, is carving out by offering benefits up to INR 25,000 on Micra to INR 80,000 on Terrano SUV. Ford, an American car  maker is also in the race of luring buyers by offering benefits of up to INR 30,000 on Figo, Aspire as well as EcoSport prior GST. The company is offering discounts of INR 20,000 to INR 30000 on its popular small SUV – EcoSport, and INR 10,000 to INR 25,000 on Figo hatchback and Aspire sedan as per the variant. With the GST bill coming into effect from July 1, the GST council has decided to levy a uniform tax rate of 28 percent on all petrol and diesel vehicles. However, small petrol cars which are less than 4 metre in length will attract 1% additional cess while small diesel cars will attract additional cess of 3% and larger vehicle an additional cess of 15%.
