HM Ambassador gets BS4 certification from ARAI

Last we knew, Hindustan Motors was barred from selling the Ambassador in all major metropolitan cities as the vehicle did not comply with BS4 emission norms. Now, here’s good news if you are a fan of the good old Amby. HM has received the BS4 certification from ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) for the Ambassador with the new BS4 compliant diesel engine.

This means HM will now be allowed to sell its BS4 compliant Ambassador in all the 13 cities where the car was banned for the last three years. “With the ARAI certification, we will be able to roll out BS 4 cars over the next few days,” a company official said.

The BS4 compliant Ambassador is powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the BS3 unit produces around 36 PS of power and 73Nm of torque, this new model apparently marks a significant step up in terms of performance and drivability.
