Hyundai Motors has finally unveiled the Kona sub compact SUV for its domestic market. The SUV will be reaching the North American and European market in a short while. On the other hand, the Indian arm of Hyundai hasn’t revealed much information about the vehicle. But owing to the increasing popularity of the SUVs, it might come to India as well.
Hyundai Kona has been spied upon several occasions and after finally looking at it undisguised, we can conclude that it has an aggressive design. The front end consists of the trapezoidal grille with sleek splinter shaped LED headlamps with DRLs. From the sides, it gets a butched up appearance due to the flared wheel arches which have been topped with plastic cladding. Dual tone shade with blacked out roof and ORVMs lend it a premium look while the rear end gets wraparound taillights and faux skid plates.
On the interiors front, it offers a huge range of gadgets and creature comforts which include infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, GPS, HD Radio and 4G telematics. It will also offer HUD (heads up display) and first in class wireless charging system. In terms of safety features, the Hyundai Kona will be loaded with advanced driver assist systems. Apart from the usual airbags, ABS with EBD, it also offers available Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist which uses a front fitted camera for auto braking, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning system. As the Hyundai Kona is a B-segment SUV for the urban dwellers, it will be powered by a wide range of similar engines which will cater to all their needs. These comprise of 2.0-liter MPI Atkinson engine produces 147 hp and 179 Nm of torque which is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which can achieve a company claimed top speed of 194 kmph. The second engine on offer is the 1.6 GDI diesel engine which develops 175 bhp with 265 Nm of torque which gets a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The newly developed SUV is also available with an optional 4WD drivetrain to give it go-anywhere capabilities.
