The Jeep Compass can be your thing to own sooner than you thought, as its speculated that the SUV will launch in our country in August. Jeep has already commenced the bookings of the Compass at a premium of INR 50,000 at its dealerships. The compact SUV which is to challenge the likes of Hyundai Tucson and other new products in the aforementioned segment is expected to be priced in the bracket of INR 18 lakh to 22 lakh (ex-showroom). The production of the Jeep Compass has already commenced at the Fiat Chrysler manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune with the first product to be rolled out recently. The ‘Made in India’ Jeep Compass is based on the automaker’s small wide 4×4 platform which is also to underpin the upcoming Jeep Renegade SUV. Being a compact SUV, the Compass will be offered in a 5-seat layout and dimensionally is to measure 4447mm in length, 1813mm in width, 1651 in height along with 2634mm of wheelbase and 205mm of ground clearance. The engine specifications of this SUV will comprise of both petrol as well as diesel guises. The former is to get a 1.4-litre Multi-Air motor churning out 160Bhp while the latter is to get a 2.0-litre Multi-Jet powerhouse which is capable of producing 170Bhp of power. The transmission responsibilities will be taken care of by a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Jeep will also introduce a 7-speed DSG automatic unit with the Compass as well. Staying true to Jeep’s history, the Compass too will come equipped with 4×4 capabilities. But buyers will also get the option to choose the SUV with just a 4×2 drivetrain as well. The exterior profile of the Jeep Compass resembles quite a lot with what we see on its bigger brother, the Grand Cherokee. It gets LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail-lamps, multi-spoke alloy wheels, chrome grille, clamshell bonnet among the others. Talking about the interior features, the Compass is to get steering mounted controls, 7-inch touchscreen multi-information display, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, leather upholstery among the others.
