Jeep India, an iconic American auto brand will be launching the much awaited Jeep Compass premium SUV in India today. Expected to get starting price of INR 18 lakh (ex-showroom), it is believed that the SUV maker will reveal the prices for the diesel derivative only. However, the petrol version will be introduced in the domestic market on the later stage. The premium SUV will be offered in 5 variants across three trim levels – Sport, Longitude & Limited. The all-new Jeep Compass is based on new Small Wide 4X4 Architecture which will also underpin the forthcoming Jeep Renegade compact SUV. Taking inspiration from Grand Cherokee, the premium SUV comes with signature-style 7-slat grille, LED projector headlights with DRLs and muscular front bumper at the front. At the side, the premium SUV gets trapezoidal wheel arches with black plastic cladding and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels which gives an appealing look the profile. The rear end of the SUV gets new split-design LED taillights, rear spoiler & silver skid plate on the rear bumper which enhances the overall look of the rear section. Dimension-wise, the new Jeep Compass SUV will measure 4395 mm in length, 1818 mm in width, 1640 mm in height along with wheelbase of 2636 mm. Inside the cabin, the Compass premium SUV will sport plush interiors with top of the line features such as 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control system, dual passenger airbags, dual stage passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, Hill Start Assist, cruise control system and the Terrain Select dial with multiple driving modes and more. Under the skin, the premium SUV from the American car maker will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel derivative will be powered by a 2.0- litre MultiJet II diesel engine which can produce max power of 173 PS @ 3750 rpm against the peak torque of 350 Nm in between 1750 – 2500 rpm. On the other hand, the petrol version which will be brought into the market on the later stage will be equipped with 1.4- litre MultiAir petrol engine. The petrol mill is capable of developing 162 PS with peak torque of 250 Nm. In terms of fuel efficiency, the diesel variants are expected to return mileage of 17.1 kmpl and 16.3 kmpl for 4X2 and 4X4 respectively. Transmission duties will be carried out by 6-speed manual as standard with an optional 7-speed DDCT unit. When launched the Jeep Compass premium SUV will compete against the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan.
