We previously reported that the detailed brochure of 53 pages has been leaked online prior to the official launch of Jeep Compass premium SUV. As the Baby Cherokee SUV will play an essential role in strengthening Jeep’s footprints in the country, the company would be looking to keep prices pretty competitive for the first Made in India Jeep. To be offered in 5 variant levels, the company will be launching the diesel derivative initially while the petrol unit will follow on the later stage. The Made in India Jeep Compass is built on the small wide 4X4 platform which also underpins the upcoming Renegade SUV wherein the former sports longer wheelbase for more space inside the cabin. Dimensionally, the SUV will measure 4447mm in length, 1813mm in width, 1651 in height along with 2634mm of wheelbase and 205mm of ground clearance. Under the skin, the Compass SUV will come in two set of engine options – 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel and 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol. The former will be available in both 4X2 as well as 4X4 drivetrain systems. The diesel engine will develop 170hp of max power along with peak torque of 350Nm. While, the latter will also be offered with 4X2 and 4X4 options which can develop 160hp of max power. Transmission duties will be carried out by 7-speed dual clutch automatic. Feature-wise, the Jeep Compass SUV will sport a 7-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The overall appeal and interior quality of the cabin remains premium likewise the models to be sold in the international market. In terms of safety, the SUV will feature 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse camera with sensors, ESP, hill-start assist and much more. Having said that the SUV will be manufactured in the country, it comes with an added advantage of heavy localisation which will help the company to sport a competitive price tag. We speculate that the company label the SUV with a price tag falling in the price bracket of INR 18 lakh – INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
